This guide covers moving a Survival Servers Conan Exiles server from the original UE4 build to Conan Exiles Enhanced, the UE5 build scheduled for Funcom's public dedicated-server release on May 5, 2026.

What changes in Enhanced

  • The public Conan Exiles Steam app becomes Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5, 2026.
  • The original UE4 build remains available through the Conan-Exiles-Legacy branch.
  • Enhanced reads the UE4 Exiled Lands save database on first startup.
  • During first Enhanced startup, the server copies ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db to a UE5 save named game_0.db.
  • After conversion, game_0.db is not readable by the UE4 Legacy server.
  • Isle of Siptah is not launched as a separate UE5 dedicated-server map. Siptah-specific dlc_siptah.db data is not used by the UE5 server.

Before you migrate

  1. Make sure the source Conan Exiles server is using Exiled Lands, not Isle of Siptah.
  2. Stop the source Conan Exiles server.
  3. Stop the target Conan Exiles Enhanced server.
  4. Create or download a backup of the source server's ConanSandbox\Saved\ folder.
  5. Keep that UE4 backup until you have joined the Enhanced server and verified your characters, buildings, and settings.

Do not delete your UE4 server or backup immediately after the first Enhanced startup. The UE5 conversion is one-way.

Automatic same-machine copy

If your Conan Exiles server and Conan Exiles Enhanced server are on the same machine and under the same account, the Enhanced control panel can copy the UE4 save for you.

  1. Open the Conan Exiles Enhanced server in the control panel.
  2. Find the Migrating from Conan Exiles (UE4) panel.
  3. Select the stopped Conan Exiles source server.
  4. Click Copy UE4 Save.
  5. Start the Enhanced server after the copy completes.
  6. Wait for the first Enhanced startup to finish creating game_0.db.
  7. Join the server and verify your save in-game.

The automatic copy refuses Siptah sources, running servers, servers with another active panel task, and servers on a different machine. If your source is on a different machine, open a support ticket and staff can move the save manually.

Manual FTP migration

Use this path if you are moving a save yourself or keeping a local copy.

  1. Stop both servers.
  2. Connect to the source Conan Exiles server by FTP.
  3. Download ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db and any matching game.db-wal or game.db-shm files if present.
  4. Connect to the Conan Exiles Enhanced server by FTP.
  5. Upload those files into ConanSandbox\Saved\ on the Enhanced server.
  6. Start the Enhanced server.
  7. Confirm that game_0.db is created after first startup.
  8. Join the server and verify the converted save.

If the Enhanced server already has a live save, back up its ConanSandbox\Saved\ folder before replacing any database files.

Isle of Siptah warning

Enhanced does not use the separate UE4 Isle of Siptah dedicated-server map or dlc_siptah.db. If your active server is Siptah, move characters to Exiled Lands before migrating. Do not use the automatic copy tool for a Siptah save.

Mods

UE4 Conan Exiles mods are not automatically compatible with Enhanced. Check each Steam Workshop page for Enhanced or UE5 support before migrating a heavily modded server. If a mod is not updated for Enhanced, remove it before first startup or test on a separate copy.

Rollback expectations

You can keep running the original UE4 server from a UE4 backup or the Conan-Exiles-Legacy branch, but you cannot take an Enhanced game_0.db save and load it back into UE4. Treat the first Enhanced startup as a one-way conversion of that copy.

Troubleshooting

  • If the copy button is disabled, hover over the source server list entry or read the reason shown next to the server. Common causes are running source server, different machine, Siptah map, or an active panel task.
  • If game_0.db is not created, stop the Enhanced server, confirm game.db is present in ConanSandbox\Saved\, then start it again.
  • If the server starts fresh, stop it and verify that the uploaded files are in the target Enhanced server's ConanSandbox\Saved\ folder, not a nested folder.
  • If your source and target servers are on different machines, open a support ticket and include both game server IDs.
