- Port forwarding capability on your router
Required Components
- BepInEx - Modding framework for Unity games
- SilklessCoop - The multiplayer mod for Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Echo Server - Relay server for multiplayer connections
Installation
- Download the latest BepInEx from GitHub (x64 version)
- Extract BepInEx to your Hollow Knight: Silksong game directory (where hollow_knight.exe is located)
- Run the game once to generate BepInEx folders, then close it
- Download SilklessCoop from Nexus Mods
- Place SilklessCoop.dll in the BepInEx\plugins folder
- Download the Echo Server from GitHub
- Extract echo_server.exe to a dedicated folder for your server
Configuring the Server
- Create a config.txt file in the same folder as echo_server.exe
- Add the following configuration:
port=16700 maxplayers=4 servername=My Silksong Server
- Forward port 16700 (TCP/UDP) on your router to your server machine
- Configure Windows Firewall to allow echo_server.exe
Starting the Server
- Run echo_server.exe - it will show "Echo server started on port 16700"
- Share your public IP address with friends (find it at whatismyipaddress.com)
- Players connect using the SilklessCoop mod menu in-game
- Enter the server IP:port (e.g., 123.45.67.89:16700)
Joining a Server (Client Setup)
- Install BepInEx and SilklessCoop on your game client (same as server steps)
- Launch Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Press F1 to open the SilklessCoop menu
- Enter the server IP and port
- Click Connect and enjoy co-op gameplay!
Troubleshooting
- If players can't connect, verify port forwarding is configured correctly
- Check Windows Firewall isn't blocking echo_server.exe
- Ensure all players have the same version of SilklessCoop installed
