Lost Skies is a cooperative survival adventure for 1-6 players set amongst floating islands in a vast sky. The game is not an MMO but focuses on smaller-scale instanced PvE multiplayer. You can take your character into your friends' worlds and continue your adventure together in this spiritual successor to Bossa's Worlds Adrift.
Yes, dedicated servers are part of the core plan. The dedicated server will be a separate executable on Steam called Lost Skies Dedicated Server, coming either with 1.0 release or shortly after. The servers will be headless, and mods, custom maps, and rulesets are planned. Player count will be based on hardware and connection capabilities, with Unity engine capping around 150 players per session.
Lost Skies can be played offline. However, if you want to play with others, you'll need an internet connection to join their worlds or host your own. The game supports both solo offline play and online multiplayer experiences.
Yes, the Rust-style run your own server model opens things up to mods and likely larger player numbers via modding. Custom server rules will give players freedom to create experiences including open-world PVP sandbox environments, though this will be brutal and unforgiving by design and not what the game is primarily balanced around.
Lost Skies released to early access on April 18, 2025. The full 1.0 release date is scheduled for September 17, 2025. Dedicated servers and modding support are planned for the 1.0 release or shortly thereafter.
