Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a free-to-play team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve. Players choose from nine unique character classes — Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy — and work together in game modes like Capture the Flag, Control Points, Payload, King of the Hill, and Mann vs. Machine co-op. A dedicated server lets you host your own community with custom maps, mods, and rules.
TF2 supports a wide variety of game modes including Control Point (cp_), Payload (pl_), King of the Hill (koth_), Capture the Flag (ctf_), Payload Race (plr_), Arena, and Mann vs. Machine (MvM) co-op. You can also run community game modes like Dodgeball, Surf, Jump, Trade, and custom modes via SourceMod plugins. Switch maps and modes anytime through our control panel or server config. Hosting a Source 2 sandbox / dev community instead? See our S&box server hosting.
SourceMod is the most popular server plugin framework for TF2. Upload MetaMod:Source and SourceMod to your server via FTP, then install plugins by placing them in the addons/sourcemod/plugins folder. Popular plugins include admin tools, voting systems, custom game modes, and anti-cheat. Our FTP access makes managing plugins straightforward.
It depends on your game mode. Standard competitive matches use 12 players (6v6). Casual community servers typically run 24 players (12v12). Larger community servers can support 32 players for chaotic fun. Mann vs. Machine uses 6 player slots. Our plans range from 12 to 32 slots so you can choose the right size for your community.
Yes! TF2 supports custom maps which you can upload via FTP or use Steam Workshop integration. Set up a map rotation through the mapcycle.txt file or our Server Config tool. Players will automatically download custom maps when connecting. You can also configure FastDL for faster map downloads.
